Los Angeles. Eddie Murphy received the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre Saturday night, where peers and family gathered to honor his career; he accepted the award and delivered remarks, and Mike Myers paid tribute onstage while wearing full Shrek makeup, reflecting their long-running collaboration over four Shrek films spanning roughly 25 years.

Los Angeles. The ceremony prompted standing ovations and gathered entertainers including Kevin Hart, Spike Lee, Dave Chappelle, Arsenio Hall, and Kenan Thompson; Murphy said he was 'filled up' and nearly cried. The tribute will be released as a Netflix special on May 31, and the AFI recognition will likely increase attention to Murphy's body of work in the coming weeks.

Oklahoma City — The Thunder routed the Phoenix Suns 119-84 in Game 1 of the Western Conference first-round series Sunday at Paycom Center, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring 25, Jalen Williams adding 22 and Chet Holmgren contributing 16 as Phoenix shot below 35 percent. Oklahoma City opened with a 17-2 burst, grabbed 19 offensive rebounds that produced 25 points and converted Suns mistakes — 19 turnovers — into 34 points. Down 30 with seven minutes to play, Suns coach Jordan Ott emptied his bench. Ott, in his first season as Phoenix coach, stood on the sideline alongside Oklahoma City’s Mark Daigneault, who is in his sixth season as Thunder coach.

Both coaches are 41 and were born in 1985; neither played college basketball. Ott worked as a graduate assistant and video coordinator under Tom Izzo at Michigan State, later becoming an NBA video coordinator with the Atlanta Hawks, while Daigneault worked as a student manager under Jim Calhoun at Connecticut and rose through the college ranks. Ott led a rebuilding Suns team to 45 wins and was a Coach of the Year candidate until injuries affected Phoenix late in the season. The Suns reached the playoffs via the Play-In after a loss to Portland and a win over Golden State, while Oklahoma City had rested. Players and coaches said adjustments are necessary — keep the ball moving, avoid contested two-point attempts and limit transition — as Phoenix seeks to be competitive in a series many view as a steep test for the young coach.

Cleveland — The Toronto Raptors fell further behind the Cleveland Cavaliers after Monday night's Game 2 in Cleveland, with the visitors prioritizing shots for leading scorer Brandon Ingram but failing to capitalize; Ingram finished 3-for-15 for seven points and five turnovers as Cleveland secured the win and a 2-0 series lead.

After Sunday's public practice meeting between coach Darko Rajakovic and Brandon Ingram, team members expressed support but results did not improve, leaving the Raptors to return to Toronto to re-evaluate strategy; meanwhile, early Sunday in Natchitoches Parish a separate incident saw 23-year-old Jacob R. Ingram die in a single-vehicle crash, with impairment suspected.

Los Angeles — On Sunday night, the San Jose Earthquakes defeated Los Angeles FC 4-1, with Ousseni Bouda scoring twice in the second half and Timo Werner assisting and scoring his first MLS goal. The match ended a scoreless run for LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at 593 minutes and occurred during an early Western Conference showdown.

The result on April 19 moved San Jose to 7-1-0 and tied them with the Vancouver Whitecaps atop the Western Conference and Supporters' Shield races; coach Bruce Arena highlighted the team's turnaround from last season as players and new signings combined to win four straight road matches this year, shifting early-season standings.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND — Matt Fitzpatrick defeated Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at Harbour Town on Sunday, hitting a 4-iron from about 204 yards that rolled to 13 feet for a birdie to secure his second RBC Heritage title. Fitzpatrick finished the tournament at 18-under 268 after a final-round 70 that included his only bogey.

Scheffler had rallied late in the final round with two birdies to post a 4-under 67 and force the extra hole, but missed the playoff when Fitzpatrick sank the winning birdie. The event concluded Sunday with large gallery presence and tournament officials recording the final results; other headline winners were noted in tournament coverage this week.

LOS ANGELES — Hannah Green won the JM Eagle LA Championship on Sunday at El Caballero, holing a 12-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole after a back-nine comeback to finish 17-under 271 and force a playoff with Sei Young Kim and Jin Hee Im.

The playoff on the par-4 18th ended when Green hit a wedge from 130 yards and curled in a right-to-left breaking putt to secure the title; Jin Hee Im had been penalized a stroke for slow play on Saturday, and Green’s victory raised her 2026 worldwide wins to four and career LPGA victories to eight.

Denver — The top-seeded Colorado Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 Sunday in Game 1, with Logan O'Connor scoring his first goal since April 26 and Scott Wedgewood stopping 24 shots in his first Stanley Cup playoff start. In Tampa, the Montreal Canadiens stunned the Lightning as Juraj Slafkovsky recorded a hat trick and scored the overtime winner.

Both results shifted early series dynamics this week: Colorado earned home-ice advantage momentum ahead of Game 2 on Tuesday while Montreal wrested away home-ice edge in its series after Slafkovsky's 1:22 overtime strike. Coaches from the Kings and Lightning indicated they will reevaluate goaltending and special teams before the next scheduled games.

Washington — The U.S. military said it launched a strike Sunday in the Caribbean Sea that destroyed a boat accused of ferrying drugs and killed three people, U.S. Southern Command stated. The action is part of a campaign against suspected trafficking vessels that began in September and has operated along known smuggling routes.

The series of strikes has resulted in at least 181 fatalities to date and has ramped up again this week despite concurrent conflict in the Middle East, officials said. The administration frames the operations as efforts against so-called 'narcoterrorism,' while the military has not publicly released evidence showing drugs aboard the targeted vessels; the strikes follow a January raid involving Nicolás Maduro.

Frankfort, Ky. Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman announced Monday she is running for governor in 2027, speaking at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History; she cited her record as the state's 58th lieutenant governor, her background as an educator and nonprofit founder, and her priorities of education and mental-health access.

The announcement initiates a Democratic primary season and frames debates around Pre-K expansion, school funding and mental-health services; Beshear-Coleman administration figures cited nearly 70,000 new jobs and $45 billion in investment as part of her record, and campaign events, filings and fundraising activities are expected this week and in the coming months.

PHILADELPHIA — On Sunday night, April 19, 2026, Michael Harris II homered and collected three hits as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 to complete a three-game sweep in Philadelphia. Ozzie Albies hit an RBI double and Austin Riley drove in a run while Tyler Kinley earned the victory in relief for Atlanta.

The sweep extended Atlanta's winning run to five games and left the Phillies with five consecutive losses and 10 defeats in their last 13 games; Philadelphia was outscored 56-33 during a recent 2-7 homestand and fell 6.5 games behind Atlanta in the NL East. Raisel Iglesias closed for his fifth save and both teams prepare for upcoming series this week.
