President Donald Trump said the federal government owes him “a lot of money” for past Justice Department investigations and asserted any payout would cross his desk. He was responding to a New York Times report that he filed administrative claims before being reelected seeking roughly $230 million over the FBI’s 2022 Mar-a-Lago search and the Trump-Russia inquiry. Trump said he didn’t know the figures and floated donating any taxpayer money or putting it toward a White House ballroom. DOJ said officials follow career ethics guidance; the status of the claims is unclear, with one filed in August 2024.

Dancing With the Stars turned emerald for Wicked Night, with director Jon M. Chu guest-judging and Chris Scott choreographing a punchy pro opening. Whitney Leavitt’s glittering Popular quickstep earned the season’s first 10s and a 39, while Jordan Chiles’ tender For Good rumba also scored 39. Robert Irwin, Danielle Fishel, and Elaine Hendrix each posted 36; Alix Earle impressed with 35. Despite widespread improvement and big smiles in the ballroom, Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying landed a 28 and, with partner Rylee Arnold, was eliminated as the night’s lowest scorer.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has narrowed who must pay the new $100,000 H-1B fee, saying it applies only to new applicants living abroad. In a late Monday notice, the agency said petitions filed on or after Sept. 21 for workers outside the U.S.—and petitions that request consular, port-of-entry, or pre-flight inspection notification for an applicant in the U.S.—must pay the fee before applying. The fee does not apply to changes of status, such as F-1 to H-1B. The clarification follows earlier White House remarks and President Trump’s Sept. 19 justification for the policy.

Pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder arrested by ICE in March and later released by court order, returned to federal court as Third Circuit judges questioned the government’s bid to shift his habeas case on venue grounds. Khalil accuses the Trump administration of trying to re-detain him through a “kangaroo court,” while his lawyers argue immigration courts can’t resolve First Amendment claims. A lower court has blocked his removal, and a Boston judge last month found the government violated protesters’ rights. The State Department defended efforts to expel “terrorist-supporting aliens.” Khalil says he remains confident.

On CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins, conservative commentator Scott Jennings called it “kind of funny” that President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video of himself bombing “No Kings” protesters with feces, arguing the demonstrations were pointless because “we don’t have a monarchy.” CNN’s Karen Finney blasted the clip as “absolutely disgusting” and defended the protests as core to democracy, accusing Trump of consolidating power and calling those who disagree “the enemy.” The panel sparred over whether marching or door-knocking better serves voters, with Jennings dismissing the rallies as a wasted Saturday.

Georgia man Billy Joe Cagle, 49, was federally charged with attempted violence at an international airport, interstate threat communications, and being a felon in possession after authorities say he threatened on FaceTime to 'shoot up' Hartsfield-Jackson and then arrived at the South Terminal. Alerted by a report, Atlanta police found him 25 minutes later and arrested him; video showed him walking toward a crowded TSA checkpoint, and police said he appeared unarmed inside. A sweep located his pickup with an AR-15-style rifle loaded with 27 rounds. Officials said swift reporting averted tragedy.

One month after his 2-year-old son died in floodwaters, California father Brandon Padilla-Aguilera was charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and child abuse, prosecutors said. On Sept. 18, their car was swept away; Padilla-Aguilera, 26, and his son Xavier escaped but became separated. Xavier was found dead the next day after an extensive search. Padilla-Aguilera was arrested Friday at his Barstow home. Though police said he was arrested for murder, prosecutors filed only the two counts. His attorney denied guilt; he is due back in court next week.

At a food distribution in Landover, Maryland, organized by Capital Area Food Bank and No Limits Outreach Ministries, federal workers lined up as the government shutdown stretched on. Organizers said they served more than 370 households—over twice what they expected—with IDs required to receive food. Federal contractor Summer Kerksick, who waited two hours, said missed paychecks made the groceries essential, and Social Security worker Rolanda Williams described needing help she never imagined. With about 1.4 million federal employees furloughed or unpaid, Congress remains split: Sen. Ron Johnson proposes paying only those working, while Democrats seek pay for all.

Typhoon Halong battered Alaska’s Yukon-Kuskokwim delta, damaging up to 15 villages. In Kipnuk, state officials estimate 90% of homes destroyed; nearly all 700 residents were evacuated. Record tides and 107 mph winds swept away houses; 67-year-old Ella Mae Kashatok died and two relatives are missing. The storm exposed deepening climate risks and reignited aid disputes: Kipnuk’s $20m EPA erosion grant was canceled; FEMA funds unlocked by a disaster declaration haven’t arrived; officials urged a coordinated response. Amid grief, volunteers worked to restore power, evacuees reunited with pets, and experts urged tribes be central in recovery talks.

An immigration enforcement sweep on Manhattan's Canal Street erupted into confrontations Tuesday, as protesters surrounded federal agents after arrests in the area. Agents from ICE, Border Patrol and other federal offices pushed to clear the crowded block, at times shoving protesters and threatening pepper spray. DHS said the operation targeted counterfeit-goods sellers and reported at least one arrest for assaulting an officer. Additional agents in tactical gear arrived in a military vehicle; the FBI said agents were en route. Mayor Eric Adams said the city wasn't involved, while advocates accused the Trump administration of staging a 'violent spectacle'.
