Back on 60 Minutes, President Trump spoke on day 31 of the shutdown, blaming Democrats and urging an end to the Senate filibuster. He touted record markets and tariffs, defended immigration tactics and National Guard deployments, and denied ordering prosecutions of critics as he noted recent indictments and his pardon of crypto executive C.Z. He announced a one-year trade truce with China, pushed for renewed U.S. nuclear testing despite his STRATCOM nominee’s contrary testimony, kept ambiguity on defending Taiwan, defended strikes near Venezuela, claimed credit for an Israel ceasefire and hostage releases, and brushed aside third term talk.

For two hours in Terre Haute's dimly lit council chambers, Indiana Republican Sen. Greg Goode heard near-unanimous opposition to a fast-tracked redistricting plan to send more Republicans to Congress. Of roughly 200 attendees, none spoke in favor; six marked support on a sign-in sheet. Goode, undecided and saying he has not seen a map, called the feedback overwhelming. With Gov. Mike Braun convening a special session and Senate votes uncertain, his decision could prove pivotal, even as he acknowledges outreach from Vice President JD Vance and Donald Trump but says he felt no pressure.

President Trump, in his first 60 Minutes interview in five years, blamed Democrats for a month-old government shutdown nearing a record and offered no new plan on health care costs. He called Obamacare “terrible” and urged Republicans to end the filibuster. Without federal subsidies, insurance costs under the Affordable Care Act could double. Furloughed workers remain unpaid, active-duty troops work with delayed pay, and millions risk missing November food benefits. Trump said Republicans are voting to reopen while Democrats refuse, predicted they will relent, and rejected talks he described as “extortion.”

Kyle Larson clinched his second Cup Series championship at Phoenix Raceway, rallying from a flat tire and a two-lap deficit to finish third on an overtime restart. Denny Hamlin led 208 of 312 laps and was three laps from the crown before a late caution for William Byron’s wall hit derailed his bid; he finished sixth. Ryan Blaney won the race over Brad Keselowski. Larson never led a lap and became the first champion of the elimination era to secure the title without leading the finale and without a playoff win.

Josh Allen threw a touchdown and ran for two more as the Buffalo Bills beat the Kansas City Chiefs 28-21. Buffalo’s defense hounded Patrick Mahomes, sacking him three times and hitting him 15 more, as he finished 15 of 34 with no scores and the worst completion rate of his career. It ended in the final 17 seconds, when his last heave from the Bills 40 was batted down by rookie Maxwell Hairston after Matt Prater’s 52-yarder for Buffalo hit the upright. Allen also set the quarterback rushing TD record. Buffalo moved to 6-2; Kansas City fell to 5-4.

Scott Bessent drew backlash after defending President Trump’s Great Gatsby themed government shutdown party on CNN’s State of the Union. Asked by Jake Tapper about optics as SNAP benefits are set to run out and many Americans go without pay, the treasury secretary replied that Democrats should reopen the government and shifted to claim Obama played a record amount of golf. Tapper had aired Obama’s jab at the lavish event, including a $300 million ballroom. Online, viewers criticized Bessent’s deflection, with one citing a tally of presidential golf days.

On November 1, 2025, the 14th LACMA Art+Film Gala lit up Los Angeles. Founded by trustee Eva Chow and co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio, the Gucci-backed night spotlighted artist Mary Corse and filmmaker Ryan Coogler. Fashion swung from daring to classic: Demi Moore’s sheer floral gown stirred debate; Cynthia Erivo’s Schiaparelli couture drew raves. Doja Cat shimmered in orange gold Gucci, Paris Hilton wore black lace, and Vittoria Ceretti glowed in gold. Tara Dollinger’s Schiaparelli split opinion, while Dixie D’Amelio’s sheer look won buzz but sparked hair extension snark.

In Chicago's Pilsen and Little Village, Halloween, All Saints Day and Día de los Muertos unfolded quietly as ongoing ICE raids since early September thinned crowds and dampened the mood. Streets once packed for trick-or-treating and altars at St Procopius' fields saw lower turnout. Governor JB Pritzker's plea to pause enforcement was unsuccessful, and pepper spray incidents, one canceling a parade in Old Irving Park, another near an Evanston middle school with three US citizens arrested, according to NBC 5, added to unease. Still, families kept traditions alive, honoring loved ones amid fear and sadness.

In a 60 Minutes interview, his first in five years, President Trump defended aggressive Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids across U.S. neighborhoods, saying they "haven't gone far enough" and blaming limits on "liberal judges" appointed by Biden and Obama. He said he supports tactics including an agent tackling a mother shown in a video, tear gas in a Chicago residential area, and smashed car windows to detain drivers, because "you have to get the people out." The sit-down follows his lawsuit and settlement with CBS parent Paramount and spanned China, Venezuela, a government shutdown, and the 2028 race.

In a game described as one of the season's worst, Jaguars kicker Cam Little drilled a 68-yard field goal as the half expired, setting an NFL record and cutting Las Vegas to a 6-3 lead. The previous long was Justin Tucker's 66-yarder in 2021; Little also hit 70 in preseason. The Raiders scored on Geno Smith's 7-yard pass to Brock Bowers, but Daniel Carlson missed the extra point. Bowers, back from a Week 1 knee injury, has four catches for 41 yards. At halftime, the Raiders lead in yards 153 to 136; Trevor Lawrence has an interception.
