After 13 years on the run, Oklahoma sex offender Anthony Lennon, 44, was arrested in New York, where officials say he’d enrolled at SUNY Canton under an alias. Authorities allege he staged a bloody abduction and robbery scene in 2012 to avoid new child pornography charges and later failed to register as a sex offender. Lennon had previously pleaded guilty in a 2008 case. Police say 2012 evidence included chat logs, a computer, and discs of child abuse images. Fingerprints confirmed his identity after the arrest. Officials praised law enforcement; his custody status and legal representation remain unclear.

OpenAI’s newly renegotiated pact with Microsoft frees it to buy cloud computing on the open market, after years of relying on Microsoft before adding two other cloud providers. The restructuring also allowed OpenAI to create a for-profit arm valued at $500 billion and ink a deal with Amazon, following recent arrangements with Nvidia, Broadcom, Oracle and Google. Separately, Forbes estimates Jeff Bezos’ net worth at $264.1 billion as of about 3:20 p.m. EST Monday, supported by his roughly 8% Amazon stake and ownership of the Washington Post and Blue Origin.

Pakistan said it will not be the first to resume nuclear testing, pushing back on President Trump's claim on 60 Minutes that Pakistan, Russia and China have conducted tests. China also rejected the allegation. The comments came as Trump's own STRATCOM nominee told Congress neither China nor Russia are conducting nuclear explosive tests. North Korea remains the only nation to detonate a device since the 1990s; Pakistan last tested in 1998 and says it observes a moratorium. Trump has been unclear about resuming U.S. tests; Energy Secretary Chris Wright described planned system tests without nuclear explosions.

After 13 failed attempts to advance a short-term funding bill, Senate Majority Leader John Thune says the Nov. 21 deadline in the House measure is obsolete, since weeks have ticked by during the shutdown. He wants a new date—potentially stretching into early 2026—and says the Senate could amend the House bill or start fresh. Any change would force the House back to vote, rather than sending it straight to President Donald Trump. Democrats still demand health care talks; Thune offers process changes instead but senses an off-ramp after weekend discussions.

Amid an ongoing government shutdown, Democratic leaders blasted the Trump administration over a lapse in SNAP funding and health costs. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accused the White House of using vulnerable Americans as political pawns and said partial benefits violate the law. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries urged tapping USDA emergency funds, and Democrats noted SNAP has never run out before. A federal judge ordered the administration to use such funds, but USDA said the process could take weeks to months and acknowledged a $4 billion shortfall for November. Meanwhile, GOP leader John Thune rejected scrapping the filibuster.

Federal prosecutors in Washington are seeking to convict Sean Charles Dunn, accused of throwing a sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection agent in a viral video during President Donald Trump’s law enforcement surge. After a grand jury declined a felony, he faces a misdemeanor in a trial Judge Carl Nichols expects to last two days. Defense lawyers cite a raid on his home publicized by the White House, his firing, and political posts to allege selective prosecution; prosecutors call it a straightforward assault. Jury selection ran Monday, with opening statements set for Tuesday.

Chargers left tackle Joe Alt will miss the rest of the season after the team said he’ll undergo surgery on the ankle he re-injured Sunday against the Titans. It’s his second high ankle sprain this year to the same leg; he first hurt it in Week 4 at the Giants and returned in Week 8 vs. the Vikings. A 2024 fifth overall pick, Alt moved from right to left tackle after Rashawn Slater’s training camp patella tendon rupture. Right tackle Bobby Hart left Sunday’s 27-20 win with a groin injury. The 6-3 Chargers host the 5-3 Steelers Sunday night.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and more than a dozen counterparts filed a Boston federal lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s new rule narrowing who qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, which forgives debt after a decade for nonprofit and government workers. The Education Department says the rule bars organizations engaged in unlawful activities, including supporting terrorism or aiding illegal immigration. James called it a political loyalty test; Under Secretary Nicholas Kent called it commonsense reform. Cities, unions, and nonprofits also sued, warning it could make higher education more expensive for public workers.

Diane Ladd, a three-time Oscar nominee celebrated for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart and Rambling Rose, died Monday morning at her home in Ojai, Calif, a representative for Laura Dern confirmed. She was 89. “My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother,” Dern said, noting Ladd “passed with me beside her.” Ladd’s prolific career spanned film and television, and she and Dern remain the only mother and daughter nominated for the same movie, Rambling Rose, among many projects they shared.

Belgium’s defense minister raised concern after unidentified drones flew in two waves near the Kleine Brogel air base over the weekend, calling the activity a likely spy operation. Theo Francken said small drones appeared to test security radio frequencies before larger ones tried to unsettle the area. He ruled out a prank, noting frequency changes that defeated jammers. Officials said they cannot shoot drones down near the base due to safety risks and unclear legal grounds. Similar drone sightings have recently disrupted airports in Germany and elsewhere in the EU, with earlier reports at Belgium’s Elsenborn base.
