Southern California firefighters are slowly reclaiming territory as Santa Ana winds die down, bringing relief to communities that endured a brutal blaze last week. The Norte, Bryson and Henderson fires, which once spread rapidly under gusts of fifty to seventy miles per hour, are now shrinking as the wind subsides. However, meteorologists warn that the region’s first rains could create new hazards, such as flash flooding and mudslides, especially in steep, recently burned terrain.

The state’s emergency officials have increased water‑rescue teams and are monitoring rainfall patterns closely. Residents in Ventura and Los Angeles counties are urged to stay alert, as the combination of dry soils and sudden precipitation can trigger dangerous landslides. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service continues to issue advisories, reminding the public that the fire season’s threat remains high.

On Sunday, coach John Harbaugh benched Jameis Winston in the fourth quarter, allowing J.J. McCarthy to throw for two hundred forty‑three yards and spark a comeback.

McCarthy’s performance highlighted his potential as the Giants’ future starting quarterback, while running back Cam Skattebo remained on the bench after a season of fumbles. The game ended in a thirty‑four to twenty‑seven loss, but the quarterback change signaled a shift in the team’s offensive strategy.

Harbaugh emphasized that decisions are made in the moment and that the next game’s starter remains undecided. The Giants now face the challenge of integrating McCarthy’s playmaking while addressing a struggling running game.

Carolina Panthers defeated Philadelphia Eagles, twenty‑five to fourteen, as Bryce Young completed twenty‑eight one‑hundred‑and‑twenty‑one yards and two touchdowns, while Chuba Hubbard rushed for one‑hundred‑twenty yards and a score. The Eagles, missing quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley, struggled to keep pace.

In Chicago, Caleb Williams completed his first twelve passes after a hamstring injury, and D’Andre Swift scored twice as the Bears beat the Falcons thirty‑one to twenty‑three. The Cardinals stunned the Rams with a forty‑three‑yard field goal by Chad Ryland as time expired, sealing an eighteen‑sixteen victory.

Buffalo Bills edged the Raiders thirty‑three to thirty, with Josh Allen tying Jim Kelly for most franchise touchdown passes. Kansas City Chiefs continued their unbeaten streak, defeating the Chargers twenty‑two to six. These results shift early‑season standings and highlight injury impacts.

The new documentary about former Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has shattered box‑office expectations, drawing more than two thousand audiences to sold‑out screenings across the country.

Within a week of its release, the film has already earned a fifteen‑million opening weekend, setting a new record for a documentary in the twenty‑twenties. The film follows Holmes in the weeks leading up to her 2023 imprisonment, capturing her interactions with a skeptical film crew and her partner Billy Evans.

Critics praise the director’s blend of fact and fiction, noting how the documentary’s narrative structure mirrors the chaotic rise and fall of the once‑celebrated health‑tech company. Industry analysts predict that the film’s success will boost streaming and theatrical releases of biographical documentaries, encouraging studios to invest in high‑profile true‑story projects.
