Software giant Oracle has initiated a major global workforce reduction, issuing same-day termination notices to thousands of employees as part of an organizational restructuring. Workers across various international divisions received email notifications informing them that their positions were eliminated due to changing business needs, making their receipt date their final day of employment. The software corporation, which employed approximately 162,000 workers as of May 2025, is executing these cuts amid a twenty-five percent year-to-date decline in share prices and mounting investor scrutiny regarding capital expenditures. Market analysts indicate that workforce reductions scaling between 20,000 and 30,000 positions could yield up to $10 billion in free cash flow, bolstering financial flexibility. The company continues to prioritize capital investments toward artificial intelligence infrastructure and core database expansion while scaling back external debt financing. Affected departments reportedly include core cloud and enterprise application units, signaling an internal operational pivot toward automated infrastructure management.
