Max Verstappen controlled the United States Grand Prix from pole, adding a record seventh win at the event and cutting his championship deficit to Oscar Piastri to 40 points. Lando Norris finished second after a late, hard-fought pass on Charles Leclerc, trimming Piastri’s lead to 14 with five races left. Lewis Hamilton took fourth, while Piastri struggled to fifth, holding off George Russell. Verstappen also won Saturday’s sprint after a start-line clash between the McLaren teammates, gaining 23 points on the leader this weekend. Yuki Tsunoda finished seventh; Oliver Bearman and Fernando Alonso made the top 10.

PolitiFact rated President Donald Trump’s claim that U.S. strikes on five Venezuelan boats saved over 100,000 lives as Pants on Fire. The administration offered no proof the vessels carried drugs; aerial videos show no visible contraband, and experts say Venezuela plays a minor role in U.S.-bound trafficking. Specialists also called the math untenable given CDC overdose totals and said there’s no way to translate seizures into lives saved. Some legal scholars questioned the strikes’ legality.

Three shows into The Boy Is Mine Tour, the Chicago stop ended abruptly after Brandy Norwood left the United Center stage early, saying she needed “one second” amid apparent sound issues, and did not return. Fans on social media said the concert was cut short and that Monica finished the show alone, without the 1998 duet. Videos showed a frustrated crowd as the lights came up. Deadline has reached out to Norwood’s team for comment. The tour opened Thursday in Cincinnati, with appearances from Kelly Rowland and Muni Long.

Riding momentum, the Kansas City Chiefs enter Week 7 after a 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions that lifted them to 3-3. They’ll try to climb above .500 for the first time in ’25 when they host Geno Smith and the 2-4 Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium. Pete Carroll’s club arrives off a 20-10 win over the Titans. With both AFC West rivals in the division’s cellar below the Chargers and Broncos, stakes are high. “We understand the rivalry,” coach Andy Reid said. Today, Oct. 19, kickoff 1 p.m. ET; stream free via a live TV service.

A Washington Post report says Secretary of State Marco Rubio struck a secret deal with El Salvador’s president to swap legally protected U.S. informants for access to the CECOT megaprison, enabling the Trump administration to deport hundreds of Venezuelan immigrants there. Sources say Rubio agreed to return nine MS-13 leaders, with Attorney General Pam Bondi ending Justice Department cooperation agreements. One leader, César López Larios, was deported days later. Critics warn the move betrays U.S. law enforcement and could hobble investigations; the State Department praised Trump’s results.

The U.S. military struck another alleged drug-carrying boat Friday, killing three people, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Sunday. He said the vessel was linked to Colombia’s ELN and traveling a known narco-trafficking route in international waters under U.S. Southern Command. It was the seventh known attack since last month; at least 32 people have been killed in such strikes. The Trump administration describes the campaign as a “non-international armed conflict” with drug cartels, while lawmakers, including Sen. Mark Kelly, questioned the legal basis and evidence.

The Eagles, after losing an edge rusher to retirement this week, could get help from a familiar source. Multiple reports say Brandon Graham is weighing a return after retiring following the team’s Super Bowl win in February and leaving the door open in April. While he could sign anywhere, the Eagles’ edge need and his history with the team make them an obvious spot to watch. Asked about any talks, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said, “not to my knowledge,” and there might not need to be extensive discussions if Graham decides to play again.

With pressure rising across the league, The Athletic tracks Week 7 as pivots pile up: the Eagles, losers of two straight, visit the Vikings while searching for an identity; Jacksonville meets the Rams in London; Mike Vrabel returns to Tennessee with the Patriots; the Colts and Chargers test contender credentials; and Detroit and Tampa Bay renew their playoff-tinged rivalry. The slate opened with Bengals-Steelers and ends with a Monday doubleheader, while coaching changes and streaks — from Denver and Chicago surges to Tennessee’s firing this week — add edge to a crowded Sunday.

Perhaps following analytics or wary of struggling kicker Joshua Karty, Rams coach Sean McVay kept the offense on the field on fourth-and-3 in field-goal range in London. The decision paid off: a conversion, a march aided by a highly questionable unnecessary roughness call on the Jaguars, and a touchdown. Matthew Stafford, without top receiver Puka Nacua, went 7-of-9 for 45 yards and hit Konata Mumpfield to cap the drive. Jacksonville's offense opened with consecutive three-and-outs, leaving it chasing the Rams' early rhythm.

Version History’s third episode traces the rise and fade of Sony’s Watchman, the handheld TV set against the Walkman’s portable revolution. Hosts David Pierce, Allison Johnson, and Victoria Song revisit Sony’s 1982 launch and the device’s edge over Casio and Sinclair: a Flat Display Picture Tube that shrank CRT tech enough to slip into a church pew or a meeting. The Watchman endured for almost two decades before portable TVs faded, raising questions about isolation and a world filled with screens. The team invites feedback as new episodes take shape.
