Microsoft introduced Copilot Mode in its Edge browser, pitching it as an AI companion that can, with permission, read open tabs, summarize and compare pages, and handle tasks like booking a hotel or filling forms. The rollout landed two days after OpenAI showed its Atlas browser, and the two offerings look strikingly alike—down to their new-tab assistants—save for subtle design choices and layout. Neither company invented the concept, and for users the main difference will come from underlying models. Arriving in the same week, the parallel launches underline a tense, high-stakes AI race.

A federal indictment alleges former NBA player Damon Jones, then an unofficial Lakers coach, leaked nonpublic injury information about LeBron James to bettors before a Feb. 9, 2023 game against the Bucks. The indictment says Jones texted a co-conspirator urging a big bet on Milwaukee, saying Player 3 is out tonight. James, who sat with a lower-body ankle injury, is not accused of wrongdoing; a spokesperson declined comment, and a person familiar said he didn’t know his information would be used for betting. Milwaukee won 115–106; odds had the Bucks favored by an average of eight points.

Days after a call with Vladimir Putin led to the announcement of a US-Russia summit in Budapest, President Donald Trump canceled it, saying there was no point. The earlier Alaska meeting went ahead with minimal preparation and little result. Now Trump has imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil, signaling frustration at Moscow’s refusal to compromise on Ukraine. The Kremlin branded the move an “unfriendly act,” while Dmitry Medvedev called it an “act of war.” With Russia rejecting a freeze of battle lines and seeking control of the entire Donbas, Moscow’s terms remain unacceptable to Kyiv and, it appears, Washington.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame trimmed its senior field to 34 candidates for the Class of 2026, whittled from 52 by a blue-ribbon committee. Members voted for 25 players each, with the top 25 plus ties advancing; the list will drop to nine semifinalists next month, and three finalists will move to the Hall of Fame’s selection committee for consideration. Eligible players last appeared no later than the 2000 season. The group features names such as Ken Anderson, Roger Craig, Henry Ellard, Joe Jacoby, Clay Matthews Jr., Albert Lewis, and Steve Tasker.

Sam O’Hara, a Washington DC resident, has sued four police officers, an Ohio National Guard member, and the District of Columbia after he was detained last month for trailing a Guard patrol while playing the Star Wars "Imperial March" to protest the Trump administration’s deployment. Represented by an ACLU attorney, O’Hara says officers handcuffed him after a Guard member called police, halting a peaceful demonstration he shared on TikTok. Filed in federal court in DC, the suit alleges First and Fourth Amendment violations, false arrest, false imprisonment, and battery, and seeks compensatory damages.

In a blunt earnings-call pitch, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he needs voting control and a pay package worth nearly $1 trillion to proceed with building a 'robot army,' warning he could be ousted otherwise. The proposal ties compensation to milestones, including 1 million robotaxis and 1 million humanoid robots, with a shareholder vote set for November 7. Proxy firms ISS and Glass Lewis urged opposition; Musk called them 'corporate terrorists.' He said Optimus V3 will debut in the first quarter of next year, with V4 scaling to tens of thousands, after earlier demos struggled and used remote control.

After a drunken girls’ weekend at Butlin’s in Minehead, Charlotte Morjaria, 31, went to hospital fearing a rib injury from a game of tag. Instead, doctors found a 2.5-inch tumor on her left kidney, later diagnosed as stage-one TFE3 renal cell carcinoma. The Newport mother of one, who endured a 22-hour wait and nearly left, had her kidney removed in August, a day before turning 31. Declared cancer-free in September but still high risk, she faces regular scans and is urging others to seek checks and ask questions.

Stranger Things 5’s finale will play on the big screen, with screenings in 350+ U.S. and Canadian theaters starting Dec. 31, 2025 at 5 p.m. PT—the exact moment the episode lands on Netflix—through Jan. 1, 2026. The unprecedented day-and-date TV episode release follows earlier short-window screenings for Season 4. After discussions, the Duffers thanked Netflix leaders Ted Sarandos and Bela Bajaria for making their long-held wish happen; the creators called the plan “bitchin’.” The streamer will roll out Season 5 in three batches, culminating with the finale; participating theaters are TBA.

At an EU summit in Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed fresh US and EU sanctions as essential pressure on Moscow and pressed leaders for long‑range weapons, stronger air defenses, and funding. The US targeted Russia’s two biggest oil firms, and the EU approved a 19th package that bans Russian LNG imports. Ukraine reported five civilians shot by Russian soldiers in Donetsk and said two journalists from a state‑funded TV channel were killed by a Lancet drone in Kramatorsk. Off‑site power was restored to the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant after a month‑long outage.

A family-run German manufacturer, Böcker, found its Agilo furniture lift thrust into the Louvre’s crown jewel heist, then flipped the moment into a cheeky ad campaign. Within a day, the firm posted the tagline When you need to move fast on Facebook and Instagram, featuring the same elevator used to enter a window and flee with about €88m in Napoleonic jewelry. Marketing chief Julia Scharwatz said reaction was overwhelming: Instagram reach jumped to 1.7 million, mostly positive, though some called the humor tasteless. The lift had been stolen from a Paris rental company.
