Fiji is facing a severe HIV epidemic, with cases soaring by over elevenfold since 2014. The crisis is driven by intravenous drug use, particularly 'bluetoothing' (sharing blood after injecting), unsafe sex, and a growing crystal meth problem, with young people increasingly affected. Limited access to clean needles and inadequate resources for treatment and testing are exacerbating the situation, leading health officials to declare a national crisis. Experts warn of a potential 'avalanche' of future cases if the trajectory isn't reversed.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated ICE will be present at the 2026 Super Bowl to enforce immigration laws. She emphasized that only "law-abiding Americans" should attend, and criticized the NFL's choice of Bad Bunny as halftime performer. This follows earlier statements by Corey Lewandowski confirming ICE's intention to apprehend and deport undocumented individuals. Bad Bunny himself has expressed concerns about ICE presence affecting his U.S. performances and potential residency in Puerto Rico.

Congressional Republicans and Donald Trump are propagating misleading claims that Democrats aim to provide "free healthcare for illegals" amid a government shutdown. Democrats and healthcare experts refute these allegations, stating federal law prohibits healthcare for undocumented immigrants. The debate centers on proposed funding bills, with Republicans accusing Democrats of prioritizing "illegal aliens" over Americans, while Democrats assert Republicans are lying to shut down the government and are instead trying to reverse cuts to federally funded health coverage for lawfully present immigrants and extend ACA subsidies.

North Carolina's football team, under new coach Bill Belichick, has experienced immediate struggles, suffering a lopsided 38-10 loss to Clemson. The Tar Heels' record dropped to 2-3, with significant defeats against Power 4 opponents. Despite calls for structural changes and public acknowledgment of a "rebuilding" phase from management, Belichick insists on improving current execution rather than immediate personnel shifts. Players, however, expressed a desire to win now rather than focus on long-term rebuilding.
