The US Supreme Court has denied Google's request for a stay, forcing the tech giant to comply with an injunction mandating significant changes to its Android app distribution and payment systems. Google must now allow developers to offer alternative payment methods, link to external app downloads, and set their own prices, while also ceasing exclusivity deals. Epic Games, which won the lawsuit, states the deadline for compliance is October 22nd, 2025, though Google plans to appeal the ruling.

New research suggests that drinking just one can of fizzy drink daily, including diet versions, significantly increases the risk of developing metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Chinese researchers found that even 250ml of fizzy drinks raised MASLD risk by up to 60%. Diet drinks were linked to a higher risk than sugar-sweetened ones. Experts urge a reconsideration of diet drink safety and emphasize water as the healthiest beverage choice to prevent liver fat accumulation.

A new study in Nature Neuroscience has identified specific neurons in the visual cortex, dubbed IC-encoders, that play a direct role in creating our perception of visual illusions. Researchers used advanced imaging and optogenetics to show these neurons can generate the brain's representation of illusory edges, even without physical visual input. While behavioral tests in mice are yet to come, this breakthrough offers crucial insights into how the brain constructs what we see by actively filling in missing information.

Investor Brad Gerstner warns that OpenAI's recent deals with Nvidia and AMD are merely announcements, stressing that actual chip deployments are yet to be seen. He highlighted the "compute-constrained" reality of the AI landscape, with demand outstripping supply. This intensifying competition extends globally, with China's DeepSeek posing a national security concern due to its use of domestically produced chips and alleged alignment with CCP views. Experts emphasize the critical need for industry-wide collaboration to address the looming scarcity of computing power for AI services.

This enhanced counseling can lead to a substantial reduction, up to 80%, in children developing peanut allergies by promoting early introduction of peanut products. Researchers at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine found that such support is critical for busy pediatric practices to effectively guide families, aiming to reverse the rising trend of food allergies.
