A Romanian worker pulled from the rubble of Rome’s medieval Torre dei Conti has died, hospital officials told Italian media. Octay Stroici remained conscious during a protracted rescue after Monday’s partial collapse, but after about an hour of resuscitation at Umberto I hospital, doctors could not restore cardiac activity; he was pronounced dead at 12:20 am (2320 GMT). The 13th century tower, near the Colosseum and under restoration, suffered two collapses. Three workers escaped, one critically injured. Rescuers used a drone amid dangerous conditions as Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli attended.
