Authorities are investigating the death of a BNSF Railway conductor struck by a passing train Sunday in Columbus, Montana, the NTSB said. Around 9:40 a.m., one train sat on one track while another moved on another; the individual was between them when the moving train struck him, said Columbus Fire Rescue assistant chief Nick Jacobs. NTSB and Federal Railroad Administration officials were on scene, and BNSF referred questions to the NTSB. The conductor's identity was not released. An FRA report last year said BNSF aimed to improve safety, but front-line workers often felt uneasy reporting concerns.
