NHTSA Probes Waymo After School Bus Incident

Federal safety regulators are investigating Waymo after video showed a robotaxi maneuvering around a stopped school bus with flashing red lights in Atlanta while children were unloading. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation will examine how Waymo’s software handles stopped school buses and said similar prior incidents are likely. Waymo said the bus partly blocked the driveway, preventing the vehicle from seeing the lights or stop sign, and cited its safety record. The company has rolled out software updates and continues expanding service in new cities.
