San Francisco’s mayor said Donald Trump phoned him and scrapped a planned deployment of federal agents or troops to the city. Oakland’s mayor, Barbara Lee, said she received no call, leaving the rest of the Bay Area uncertain. Trump later wrote that friends Jensen Huang and Marc Benioff had urged action, and that Daniel Lurie asked him “very nicely” not to. Lurie cited 70-year low violent crime, record-low encampments, and rising hotel and convention bookings. Trump posted there would be no surge on Saturday. Lurie will purportedly meet Attorney General Pam Bondi; conditions on aid remain unclear.
