Trump nominee Paul Ingrassia drops Special Counsel bid

Paul Ingrassia, President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Office of Special Counsel, withdrew from Senate consideration Tuesday night amid controversy over racist text messages, including saying he had a “Nazi streak.” After Politico published messages attacking Black-related holidays and praising “competent white men,” three Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee said they would vote no—effectively halting the nomination. “He’s not going to pass,” said Majority Leader John Thune. Ingrassia wrote on X that he lacked GOP votes and would keep serving Trump. He is the DHS White House liaison.
