President Donald Trump on Friday commuted the sentence of former U.S. Rep. George Santos, who was serving more than seven years after pleading guilty to fraud and identity theft. Trump said he signed a commutation ordering Santos’ immediate release from a minimum-security federal camp in Fairton, N.J. Santos’ attorneys said his family was heading to the prison, while allies cheered and critics objected. A copy of Trump’s order posted online by the Justice Department’s pardon attorney indicates the clemency appears to erase not only prison time but further fines, restitution, probation, or supervised release.
