President Donald Trump said Thursday he is shelving a planned weekend “surge” of federal troops to San Francisco after a late-night call with Mayor Daniel Lurie, who asked for a chance to make progress. In posts on his social platform, Trump called the pause a risk, saying he could “fix things much faster,” but added, “Let’s see how you do.” Lurie confirmed the conversation and said the city welcomes work with the FBI, DEA, ATF, and the U.S. Attorney, but warned military or militarized immigration enforcement would hinder recovery. He said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reaffirmed the pause.
