Tropical Storm Melissa is forecast to become a Category 4 hurricane by Sunday, bringing catastrophic flash flooding and landslides to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Jamaica. Hurricane conditions are expected in southern Haiti Saturday, reaching Jamaica Saturday night or Sunday morning, with a slow-moving, multi-day major hurricane lingering near or south of the island through Tuesday. Friday, Melissa was 215 miles southeast of Kingston. An elderly man in Haiti died after a tree fell. Rainfall could reach 15–25 inches in southwestern Haiti and eastern Jamaica, with 6–12 inches elsewhere in Haiti and southern Dominican Republic.
