Top Border Patrol official no longer has to appear today before Chicago federal judge after appeals court ruling

An appeals court paused U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis's order requiring Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino to brief her daily on immigration enforcement tactics in Chicago, sparing him a Wednesday appearance while the Seventh Circuit reviews a bid to scrap her directive. Ellis imposed restrictions on agents' use of tear gas and less-lethal munitions amid lawsuits by protesters, journalists and clergy alleging warnings were not given; she has demanded reports and body-camera footage. DHS said it was 'thrilled' the 'judicial overreach' was paused. A deposition of Bovino and a hearing on converting the order to an injunction are pending.
