The White House ballroom saga could be worse for Trump than he realizes

A new Yahoo News-YouGov survey finds broad backlash to President Donald Trump’s sudden demolition of the White House East Wing and plan for a 90,000-square-foot ballroom. Americans disapproved of the teardown (57%-26%), the ballroom plan (61%-25%), and his handling overall (55%-28%). Intensity runs against him: 46% strongly disapprove versus 18% strongly approve, including a majority of independents. Even among Republicans, only 55% back both moves; 94% of Democrats oppose. The optics—an estimated $300 million ballroom, which Trump says is privately funded—may be fueling unease, alongside polls flagging concerns about enrichment and focus on prices.
