Spanish-language journalist Mario Guevara, who had been in U.S. immigration detention since June, was deported to El Salvador on Friday. Guevara was arrested while covering a protest and subsequently turned over to ICE. His lawyers argued his detention was retaliation for his journalism, a claim denied by Homeland Security. All criminal charges against him were dismissed. The deportation followed a court's refusal to halt the order.
