Senate approves Democratic resolution that would block Trump's global tariffs

The Senate voted 51-47 to approve a resolution blocking President Trump’s global 10% "Liberation Day" tariffs, with Republicans Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joining Democrats. Led by Sen. Ron Wyden via the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, the largely symbolic measure is unlikely to be taken up by the GOP-controlled House. Supporters said the tariffs overstep the law; Sen. Mike Crapo objected. The vote followed Trump’s move to cut tariffs on Beijing, as Vice President JD Vance defended the policy. Similar measures on Brazil and Canada passed earlier this week.
