Protesters flood streets of Philippines over state corruption

Tens of thousands of Filipinos protested nationwide on Sunday against government corruption involving billions of dollars allegedly lost to fraudulent flood relief projects. The protests, involving diverse groups including students and church members, followed allegations of lawmakers pocketing kickbacks while flood mitigation projects remained uncompleted. Estimates of losses range from £1.48 billion to over £13 billion. While largely peaceful, 72 people were arrested, and 39 officers injured. President Marcos Jr. acknowledged public anger and supported the protests, while some high-ranking officials resigned amidst ongoing investigations.
