Paramount began cutting about 1,000 employees Wednesday — roughly 5% of its workforce — in the first wave of reductions since David Ellison took over in August. In an email, Ellison said the move, felt across CBS, CBS News, MTV, Comedy Central, TV production and the Melrose Avenue studio, is meant to “build a strong foundation for the future.” Another 1,000 jobs are expected later, taking total cuts to about 10%, as new owners Skydance Media and RedBird Capital move to eliminate more than $2 billion in expenses. Layoffs echo industry contraction, with Amazon, Meta and Charter trimming jobs.
