Mosquitoes appear in Iceland for the first time : NPR

Iceland has recorded mosquitoes within its borders for the first time, after three Culiseta annulata were found on a farm in Kjós, north of Reykjavík. Insect enthusiast Björn Hjaltason spotted one at dusk on October 16 and later trapped two more; testing confirmed two females and a male. The Natural Science Institute of Iceland said the insects likely arrived by freight and can withstand the country’s climate, noting that warming temperatures and expanding international transport are bringing new species. The mosquito species stings but isn’t known to carry infections there.
