In an interview with CBS News after the announcement—the only U.S. outlet to speak with her—the 58-year-old opposition leader, currently in hiding after threats of arrest, called the award protection and a spotlight on Venezuela’s fight. The U.S. has not recognized Nicolás Maduro’s disputed July 2024 reelection and has placed pressure on his regime.
