Mamdani decries attacks as Islamophobia before voting

On the eve of early voting, Democratic New York mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani denounced what he called 'racist, baseless' attacks, saying they reflect Islamophobia. Speaking outside a Bronx mosque, he grew emotional and said he seeks to represent all New Yorkers; he would be the city’s first Muslim mayor. His remarks followed criticism of Andrew Cuomo, who, after a radio exchange suggesting Mamdani would cheer a terror attack, said the words weren’t his and accused Mamdani of playing victim, citing a 2020 Columbus photo. In debates, Mamdani rejected claims of antisemitism and 'global jihad.' Mayor Eric Adams endorsed Cuomo.
