Chinese Coast Guard Rams Philippine Vessel Near Thitu

Philippine officials say a Chinese coast guard ship blasted the BRP Datu Pagbuaya with a water cannon and then rammed its stern near Thitu Island, slightly damaging the anchored fisheries vessel but injuring no one. Beijing accused Philippine ships of illegally entering waters near Sandy Cay and said control measures were taken after warnings. Video released by the Philippine coast guard shows the water blast striking the ship and its flags. The United States condemned China’s actions and voiced support for the Philippines, as Manila vowed not to surrender territory in the disputed South China Sea.
