Israeli military lawyer resigns over abuse video leak
Maj Gen Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the Israeli military’s advocate general, resigned after taking responsibility for leaking surveillance footage that allegedly shows soldiers abusing a Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman. She said she approved releasing material to counter “false propaganda” about the army’s law enforcement. Defence Minister Israel Katz had already said she would not return and later welcomed her departure. The Channel 12 video aired in August 2024. Five reservists were charged with aggravated abuse and causing serious bodily harm, which they deny, and far-right protesters broke into the facility. Israel rejects broader UN allegations of systematic detainee abuse.
