Iowa School Superintendent Detained by ICE

Ian Roberts, superintendent of Iowa's largest school district, Des Moines Public Schools, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Department of Homeland Security stated Roberts was arrested due to a final order of removal and lack of work authorization. He has previous weapon possession charges and entered the U.S. on a student visa in 1999. Roberts, a former Olympic athlete and the district's first person of color superintendent, was taken into custody after an enforcement operation where he reportedly fled from officers. The district is awaiting further information.
