GOP revolt over texts sinks Trump nominee

President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Office of Special Counsel, Paul Ingrassia, withdrew Tuesday after Politico reported texts in which he derided the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and said he had “a Nazi streak.” Several Republican senators—some Trump allies—announced they would oppose him. Ingrassia said he lacked GOP votes and pulled out of a hearing; the White House said he’s no longer the nominee. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged Trump to fire him from his current role as White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security. Ingrassia’s lawyer said the texts might have been manipulated.
