Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts has resigned following his detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents last week. ICE stated Roberts is in the U.S. illegally from Guyana and lacked work authorization despite a final order of removal. The Iowa Board of Educational Examiners revoked his administrator license. Roberts' attorney is filing a motion to stay his removal order, citing a complex case and a prior letter suggesting his immigration case was resolved. The school board was unaware of his immigration status during hiring.
