DNA technology has finally identified Robert Eugene Brashers as the killer of four teenage girls in an Austin yogurt shop in 1991. The brutal crime, which involved arson and sexual assault, haunted the city for decades. Previous convictions were overturned due to constitutional errors. A NIBIN hit and Y-STR DNA analysis connected Brashers, who had a prior record and is linked to other unsolved crimes, to the murders. Brashers died by suicide in 1999. Authorities expressed remorse for the wrongful prosecution of four other men.
