Demolition is under way on part of the White House’s East Wing to make room for Donald Trump’s planned ballroom, according to photos published by the Washington Post and other outlets showing exterior sections ripped away. Trump said ground has been broken and that the $250m, privately funded project will create a 90,000-sq-ft venue seating up to 650, with completion expected by January 2029. The work drew swift backlash; former Republican congressman Joe Walsh called it an “utter desecration.”
