Carson Wentz missed Minnesota’s Monday practice, and now the reason is official: he’ll undergo season-ending surgery on his non-throwing left shoulder, and the Vikings placed him on injured reserve. Wentz started the last five games as Minnesota went 2–3, completing 65.1% for 1,216 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions; he was in visible pain during last week’s loss to the Chargers, when he was sacked five times. J.J. McCarthy is likely to return in Week 9 against the Lions. Minnesota also claimed tight end Ben Sims, and aside from McCarthy, Max Brosmer is the only other quarterback on the roster.
