A Boeing 747 cargo plane operating as Emirates flight EK9788 skidded off a runway at Hong Kong International Airport around 3:50 a.m., veering left into the sea and killing two people on the ground, officials said. The AirACT-operated jet struck a patrol car after taxiing halfway down the runway, then broke in two and floated near the seawall. Four uninjured crew waited at an open door, were rescued and taken to hospital. The northern runway was closed as authorities opened an investigation into weather, runway conditions, the aircraft and aircrew. No cargo was onboard.
