California's incoming wintry storm: What to expect

A powerful winter storm is forecast to sweep across California from Monday night into Tuesday, bringing heavy rain, mountain snow and damaging winds. The National Weather Service warns of flash flooding—especially on recent burn scars—from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles, with rainfall peaking at 0.25–0.5 inch per hour and gusts up to 45 mph in the high desert. Los Angeles issued evacuation warnings near Palisades, Hurst and Sunset burn areas. The Central Sierra faces 4–8 inches of snow above 7,000 feet and up to 2 feet above 9,000.
