Addison Barger blasted the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history, powering the Blue Jays' 11-4 Game 1 win over the Dodgers in Toronto. Pinch-hitting for Davis Schneider, he crushed a 2-1 slider from left-hander Anthony Banda 413 feet to right-center for his third postseason homer, centerpiece of a nine-run sixth that also included Alejandro Kirk’s two-run shot and built an 11-2 lead over the defending champions. The swing was also Toronto’s first postseason grand slam. Barger had prepped on a pitching machine for Emmet Sheehan before the left-on-left matchup, a night after sleeping on Schneider’s pull-out couch.
