Barstow Father Arrested After Toddler's Flood Death

After a Sept. 18 storm in Barstow swept away a car, 2-year-old Xavier Padilla Aguilera was found dead hours later in a county flood channel. Police, who initially called it a tragedy, said Tuesday they arrested his father, 26-year-old Brandon Padilla-Aguilera, following a monthlong investigation. He was booked on suspicion of murder with $1-million bail. Prosecutors filed counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and child abuse, and alleged willful harm resulting in death. Authorities released few details on what led to the arrest.
