Amazon Layoffs to Hit 30,000 Corporate Employees (Report)

Amazon is preparing to lay off as many as 30,000 corporate employees starting as early as Tuesday, in its largest staff reduction since about 27,000 roles were cut at the end of 2022. The move, first reported by Reuters, would equal nearly 10% of the roughly 350,000 corporate workforce and comes days before Thursday’s earnings report, as the company seeks to pare expenses and compensate for overhiring during the pandemic’s peak demand. CEO Andy Jassy told staff that generative AI will reshape work and is expected to reduce total corporate headcount over the next few years.
