Amazon Faces $2.5 Billion FTC Settlement Over Prime Traps

Amazon will issue refunds to millions of Prime members as part of a $2.5 billion Federal Trade Commission settlement. The FTC alleges Amazon used "subscription traps" to trick customers into signing up for Prime and made cancellation difficult. Approximately 35 million customers are eligible for refunds, with automatic payments expected within 90 days. Eligibility spans those who signed up or unsuccessfully tried to cancel between June 2019 and June 2025. Refunds will be up to $51 per customer. Details on filing claims will be released later.
