Air traffic controller shortages lead to broader US flight delays as shutdown nears one-month mark

With the shutdown nearing a month, staffing shortages in air traffic control again slowed U.S. travel Friday. The FAA cited delays in Boston, New York City, Nashville, Houston, Dallas and Newark, with waits of two hours or more in Boston, Nashville and New York City, and Orlando averaging nearly four and a half hours Thursday. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned disruptions will grow as controllers work six days a week without pay, after missing their first full paycheck. Analytics firm Cirium reported the first broader slowdown since Oct. 1, and LAX saw a brief ground stop last weekend.
