UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon said they downed an Israeli drone flying “aggressively” over a patrol near Kfar Kila on Sunday, prompting a dispute with Israel’s military, which called the flight routine intelligence work. UNIFIL reported a second Israeli drone dropped a grenade near a patrol and an Israeli tank later fired toward peacekeepers; no injuries or damage were recorded. The rare shootdown comes amid persistent border tensions despite last year’s ceasefire and ahead of a week of diplomacy, including a US- and French-led monitoring meeting and visits by regional and US envoys.
