Luis Castillo earned the win with 1 1/3 innings in his first major league relief outing, sending Seattle to its first ALCS since 2001 to face the Blue Jays on Sunday in Toronto. Detroit’s Kerry Carpenter had supplied a sixth-inning, two-run homer, before pinch hitter Leo Rivas tied it in the seventh.
