Trump backs away from sending federal troops to San Francisco after pleas from tech leaders

President Donald Trump called off a planned federal troop “surge” into San Francisco scheduled for Saturday after speaking with Mayor Daniel Lurie and amid pushback from tech leaders. Trump said appeals from Nvidia’s Jensen Huang and Salesforce’s Marc Benioff — who recently reversed support for the National Guard — helped sway him. Lurie welcomed cooperation with federal law enforcement but said military deployments would hinder recovery. California leaders had threatened to sue. The White House said Trump will give the city a chance, even as he signaled he could revisit a deployment.
