North Korea Claims Cruise Missile Test Success

North Korea said it successfully test-fired sea-to-surface cruise missiles Tuesday, with the projectiles flying more than two hours to strike targets in its western waters, and said the weapons will broaden the reach of its nuclear-armed forces. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs said they detected the launches and, with the United States, are analyzing the systems while maintaining a combined posture for a dominant response. The announcement landed ahead of an expected Trump-Lee Jae Myung summit during APEC meetings in Gyeongju; Trump downplayed the tests and said he remains open to meeting Kim Jong Un.
