Denmark announced $4.2bn in extra defence spending to bolster security in the Arctic and North Atlantic, alongside a $4.5bn purchase of 16 additional F-35s, bringing its fleet to 43. Coordinated with Greenland and the Faroe Islands, the package adds two Arctic ships, maritime patrol planes, drones and early-warning radar, and establishes a new Arctic command headquarters in Nuuk with a new unit under Joint Arctic Command. Denmark will also fund an undersea cable linking Greenland and Denmark. The defence ministry said the measures strengthen capabilities for security and, if needed, NATO defence.
