Woman arrested over theft of gold worth $1.7 million from Paris Natural History Museum

A 24-year-old Chinese woman was arrested in Barcelona and charged over the Natural History Museum in Paris gold theft. She was handed to French authorities on Oct 13, charged with theft and criminal conspiracy, and detained. Investigators say nearly six kilograms of native gold—valued at €1.5 million but of priceless historical worth—were taken after doors were cut and a case blowtorched. The prosecutor said she tried to dispose of nearly one kilogram of melted gold. The break-in is part of a spate of museum heists, including Sunday’s $102 million jewelry robbery at the Louvre.
