California Animal Rights Activist Convicted in Chicken Theft

Zoe Rosenberg, a 23-year-old Bay Area activist with Direct Action Everywhere, was convicted in Sonoma County of felony conspiracy, trespassing and related charges for a 2023 nighttime raid at Petaluma Poultry, where she took four chickens she said were abused. She faces up to four and a half years; sentencing is Dec. 3. District Attorney Carla Rodriguez said the case shows activists are not above the law. The verdict contrasts with recent acquittals of DxE members. A Sonoma State professor called it an inflection point. Rosenberg plans to appeal and remains unapologetic.
