Lithuania is preparing to close its border crossings with Belarus indefinitely after suspected cigarette-smuggling balloons repeatedly disrupted flights over Vilnius, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė said Monday. Air traffic at Vilnius Airport was halted on three consecutive evenings, and Kaunas was also affected. Crossings at Medininkai and Šalčininkai were shut for hours after each incident, and the border was closed for 24 hours overnight Sunday. Restrictions run through Wednesday as the Cabinet weighs an indefinite shutdown, with exemptions for diplomats and diplomatic mail; EU citizens would still be allowed to enter. Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya backed the move.
